Issue with fist generation Chromecast in long term

Issue with fist generation Chromecast in long term

I have been one of the first users of the Chromecast device on my TV and was fortunate to experience the casting experience from my mobile and laptop. However, the experience in recent years had turned out to be sour and had forced me to lookout for other options available for my old TV. Following are my reasons on my first-generation Chromecast seemed outdate and the experience was not as smooth as it used to be:

  • Lack of options to install OTT apps: The first and foremost issue about using the old first-generation Chromecast device was the lack of feature to install the OTT apps. Even though there are options to cast the OTT apps to the first-generation Chromecast, the lack of in-built OTT feature results in complications such as battery drain in the device casting the screen and dependent on availability of device with subscriptions.
  • Slow 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi connection: The second most irritating thing about using the first-generation Chromecast device was the lack of 5Ghz support and internet connection available only with 2.4Ghz band. With the only option to connect internet with 2.4Ghz, the streaming experience was lagging and may often hangs while playing high-definition (HD) videos.

Hope, Google addresses few of the above issues in the first-generation Chromecast or brings in dedication option or feature to install the third-party apps to have seamless casting experience.
